Some people may not think these WORDS are IMPORTANT, BUT THEY ARE. However they have opened my mind to a deeper depth of understanding and to where these words are placed and used.
Forth Word of importance: ABRAHAM
The patriarch of the Jewish people and the father of all who believe.
"Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend. (James 2:23)
If we carved a "Mount Rushmore of Old Testament Greats," we'd make Abraham's face jut out prominently on the far left, like George Washington's. Americans refer figuratively to our first president as the " father of his country." But Abraham literally was the father of his. And his story is undeniable proof of God's grace.
When introduced in Genesis 11, Abraham is seventy-five and living in Ur, near the Persian Gulf (modern-day Iraq). He is almost certainly a worshiper of various Mesopotamian idols (Joshua 24:2) He hasn't yet met the God of the Bible. At the time, he is known as Abram, which means "exalted father". In one of life's cruel ironies, the old guy is married to a woman (Sarai, later known as Sarah) who can't have kids.
In a sudden and shocking display of goodness, the one true God comes crashing into Abram's life with a suitcase full of outlandish promises: In his old age, Abram will become the father of a great nation! What's more, he will be blessed, his name will become
great, and his descendants will be a blessing to all peoples on earth ( Genesis 12:1-3)!
But wait, there's more . God pledges a homeland (Genesis 12:6) to Abram. He promises to be his shield ( Genesis 15:1) and then He changes Abram's name to "ABRAHAM (Genesis 17:5) which means " father of a multitude".
Talk about a name that fits- Abraham indeed becomes the father of a multitude. Not only father of the Jewish people, but also the patriarch of the Arab peoples (through his son Ishmael, whom he has with Hagar, Sarah's maid- see Genesis 16).
Spiritual speaking, Abraham becomes " the father of all who believe" (Romans 4"11). This is because when God said, " Go from your country ( Genesis 12:1)," Abraham " obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land" ( Hebrews 11:8-9). When God assured the old man his descendants would outnumber the stars, he " believed the LORD, and the LORD counted him as righteous because of his faith" ( Genesis 15:6 NLT).
Abraham's greatest descendant?
THAT's easy: JESUS of NAZARETH ( Matthew 1:1 ). The New Testament declares that it's through Him- through Christ's perfect life, sacrificial death, and glorious resurrection- that we are able to enjoy " a right relationship with God" ( Romans 4:13 NLT). And how do we get it? " It is given as a free gift. And we are all certain to receive it... if we have faith like Abraham's . For Abraham is the father of all who believe" ( Romans 4:16 NLT).
Do YOU have faith like Abraham's?
More specifically, where in your life do you need to trust Jehovah God today?
