Dear friends,
You've probably heard the phrase, " You can't teach an old dog new tricks". I disagree. You'd be surprised at what an old dog is willing to do when he is hungry enough. No matter how stubborn and set in his ways the dog may be, he's never too old to change if he wants to. You may be wondering why I'm bringing this up. It's because I was reminded of something that Jesus said in MATTHEW 13.
"For everyone who listens with an open heart will receive progressively more revelation until he has more than enough. But those who don't listen with an open, teachable heart, even the understanding that they think they have will be taken from them...because their hearts are unteachable, they never discover it...They look and pretend to see, but the eyes of their hearts are closed... and they have deliberately shut their eyes to the truth". (MATTHEW13:12-15)/(Message).
Notice that the big mistake we can make is when we stop listening and close our hearts. The Key here is to keep our hearts open and teachable, i.e., if we want to grow and receive further revelation concerning the Kingdom of God. If we ever let ourselves believe that we have arrived, or that we've exhausted all the revelation, that can possibility be extracted from a Bible passage or verse, then we've come to the end of revelation at least in that particular area. We've placed ourselves on the same level as the HOLY SPIRIT and essentially believe that we know as much as he does. Of course, this is simply pride and deception at its best. Think of how many Christians have allowed pride to sell themselves short of God's best, all because their hearts were unteachable. Pride will stop us from admitting that someone knows more than we do. So, rather than keeping an open heart and mind to the possibility that we might be wrong, or that our education could be flawed, and we've been steered in the wrong direction, we turn off or tune out what is being said.
Let our prayer today be: "Heavenly Father, show me what I don't see. Teach me what I need to know. Lead me where I need to go. Show me where I'm missing it and help me to get it right. Give me eyes to see and ears to hear what the HOLY SPIRIT is saying. As I read my Bible today, speak to me. Unfold and reveal your Word as I expose it to my heart and mind. I'm trusting you right now for a rhema (spoken) word in my life. You said in (MATTHEW 4:4), "Man shall live by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God". So, I'm looking to you, your word, and Spirit to fill and sustain me today as I continue to move forward in obedience to your will and plan concerning me. In Jesus I pray and ask, Amen.
