1) In Greek, the word peace means "to bind together." Jesus bind Himself, bringing us into oneness with the Father. You are in agreement with Him---and where there is agreement and unity, there is peace.
"The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have love Me." (JOHN 17:22-23).
2) As you study Scripture, the Holy Spirit works on you, increasing your discomfort in the areas you are withholding from Him. He also brings to mind the things you've learned, with the goal of helping you find freedom from any bondage that remains in your life.
"I acknowledge my sin to You, and my iniquity I did not hide; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord"; and You forgave the guilt of my sin. (PSALM 32:5).
