Who is Jesus Christ and What is His Mission to the World?
Jesus Christ is the Son of God; He was housed in a human body, yet without sin. He lived thirty three years and was crucified on a Roman cross around 33 A.D. His mission is to reveal to the world Salvation by Grace for sinners through His vicarious (in place of, a substitute) and expiatory (to satisfy for, atonement) sacrifice on the cross on a hill outside of Jerusalem in Israel.
History records the following: one named Jesus of Nazareth was born of a virgin named Mary, of the lineage of King David of Israel. He was raised in the home of Joseph, a carpenter of Nazareth.
This same Jesus started His public ministry at age thirty. He claimed to be the Son of God, even God in the Flesh. He claimed that He came down from heaven, sent by His Father to declare the Glory of God (or the attributes of God) to men; also that He came to seek and to save the lost sheep of Israel; and to be the King of His Kingdom.
He was hated by the Pharisees of His day. They were a religious sect who followed the Old Testament Law (its ordinances, ceremonies, etc.), plus followed their own added laws, found in the Talmud. They believed salvation was acquired by the keeping of the law. Whereas Jesus said, He was the end of the law for righteousness.
Jesus claimed to be The Christ, The Messiah, of the Old Testament prophecy of Isaiah 9:6-7, etc. He claimed to be the Savior of sinners by being their Substitute and Sacrifice for sins on the cross; thereby reconciling sinners to God and redeeming sinners from the curse of the broken law. And thus placing them (sinners) in the position of Justification (or being declared righteous before God).
The mainline religious Jews (the Pharisees) hated Jesus for His claim to be The Christ (The Messiah), even God in the Flesh, in answer to all prophecy taught in the Old Testament of one dying for the sins of the people. They hated Him for claiming to be the King of His Kingdom; for claiming to be the Lamb of God and the King of God’s Kingdom.
The Pharisees had the Roman Government condemn Jesus and then crucify Him on a Roman Cross for His claims. However, after three days and three nights in the grave, Jesus was raised from the grave alive, as He said He would be.
Thus, He became the Sign to all sinners that He is in fact God, with all power in heaven and in earth. That He did in fact save sinners from sin’s curse, in His Death on the Cross as their Substitute; proving His Victory over sin, hell, and the grave, by His Resurrection from the dead.
Who is Jesus Christ? He is God. He is our Savior from our sin debt. What is His mission to the world? To seek and to save lost sinners, which He did on the Cross. Therefore, the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is “Salvation is by grace and grace alone, and not by any merit of man’s works.”
“Salvation is of the LORD.” (Jonah 2:9c)
This does not mean we do not honor the 10 Commandments as a surrender to Jesus the Holy Spirit will keep you in line with a holy lifestyle. This does not mean you don't keep the Holy Days, as if these also honor God and Christ, you will desire to know about them , if even only a reading remembrance to know how they also relate to Jesus. Although the Scriptures make clear that gentile believer are not required to do some things to become a believer. Every one is to use their own conscience & pray for what the Lord wants of you in your way of worship. This is not to condemn brethren, if we do or if we do not keep these Holy Days mentioned with in the Scriptures.
Acts 21:25 New King James Version
But concerning the Gentiles who believe, we have written and decided that they should observe no such thing, except that they should keep themselves from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality.”
