For the past 6 weeks I have been following a specialized diet. I started it as a fast for my daughter to help her work on sticking to a plan to heal her diabetes. Now she is not checking in with me as much, but I can still use this avenue for prayer for her. By sticking to it I am honoring my commitment to God & her. This being said, I do need to drop some weight myself, by doing so it will improve my hereditary blood pressure condition.
There is much to be said about those who are following the Keto plan and reversing diabetes. Dr. Axe and other doctors are backs up the testimonies that people are giving. I do not have type 2 Diabetes. I wanted to stay with plan similar to my daughters. So we can share easier. For her being in a wheelchair it is much more difficult for her to see fast results and this has been a great struggle for her. Yet she is persevering through times of failures and getting back up on a consistent plan. I feel God will honor her efforts.
I looked at the Keto plan along with the Paleo. Paleo is all about healthy foods and staying away from thing that are unhealthy. a lot of cooking it yourself. a lot of preparing things a new way. I have ate fairly healthy for some years but Paleo moves it to a new level. If you do not need to loose weight (although I heard this can happen) I suggest looking into the paleo plan. Nevertheless, if you are like a lot of us, Keto brings in the weight loss. Keto take Paleo to another level. It was started from Paleo ideas, yet more limiting on some things and maybe a little lax on others. It seems to be all about eating more healthy fats and abstaining from high carb things like pastas, sugar, breads, beans & Potatoes. And any starchy vegetable with a high carb content.
In doing this many people try a method of counting carbs but not necessarily sticking the healthy foods. and some have had great success with weight loss, I do not know about their health. Others try what's called Lazy Keto and do not count everything but keep their carbs low. While others count it all, to make sure their proteins is not over, that they are getting the required fats, calories stay low and carbs low. Which this diligent effort takes a lot of time & planning.
I am keeping it as simple as I can. but I do not trust myself for not cheating, so to keep me accountable & under control, I write down daily progress. I am a list person and this has become another list! I count carbs and calories. and stay away from the forbidden stuff.
Most people on the Keto forums are keeping their carbs to a 20 count. Calories vary with age and height and weight to loose. I looked it up online and found out to keep the body in a ketoses to loose weight, all you need to do is stay under 50 carbs a day. Knowing myself and allowing for failures, I set my mark at 35 carbs so if I do go over I can most likely stay under the 50 mark. This has not been too difficult, most times I am ringing in at a mid 20 count, 24, 28, 17, a few times I have hit 35 and once I went over, Yet I keep pressing forward. With Angel, my daughter in my mind. if I cant do it how can I encourage her to stay with it long enough to get results in the diabetes field.
My calories have a high count of 1400, which is pretty easy to maintain. I often come in around or under the 1000 mark. I drink more water, trying for 8 glasses a day but often I only get 6. Also I have a previous fast going for my husband right now which requires that I do not eat until 3 in the afternoon. leaving my window for food from 3 until 8:30. ( I heard other people have a fasting time also on this keto plan, but I had this one already in motion before the eating plan took shape. and I want to continue it.)
I have been doing keto for 6 weeks, I have lost 16 pounds. not coming off to fast. I imagine the first 10 was water weight,
I feel good and hoping to see results in my BP one day as the pounds decrease.
Before i settled into this plan I spend days, weeks talking it over with the Lord. I felt He was the one who gave me the grace to understand I needed more carbs than a young active person, I would never start any eating plan with out consulting the Lord and letting Him be my guide. Once I was convinced I have the right plan from a-z, then I set a day to begin.
Weight may not be your problem but eating healthy is for everyone. I will post some things about food & what todays food has been shown to cause illnesses in your health. As I post these try to take it to the Lord and get his plan for you, then try to eliminate one thing at a time. Finding healthy substitutes for the favorite foods. I will try to give you a suggestion to what you can eat in its place. Some things may require a taste for it, but then again it will all be worth it.
The main thing about all of this is we are not in this to just get skinny. It is for our health. Less weight help knees, feet, BP, type 2 diabetes, heart, circulation & other things. Healthy foods will increase your health inside and out.
HEALTH TIP FOR THE DAY
This is a tip for heart burn, it can be calmed & managed with Aloe Vera juice, half & half, straight cream, buttermilk, or papaya juice. You need not take those antacids that are harmful for you.
Feel free to share in this room anything you have learned about healthy options. or any thing pertaining to health issues. its an open forum.
May God be blessed in all we do.
