Last year I was pondering and was fearful about offending God by putting up a tree. So I did not , but I continued to search. I seen a preaching on it after the season, which I cannot locate now. However, the preacher preached pretty close to this link. This year I have put up a tree without fear of offence. God knows our hearts and if you do not have a clear conscience about anything you do, best not to do it, even if it is hard to break away from family traditions. God will see your honest pursuit and bring clarity to you.
We all know the Christmas is not the real birthday of Christ Jesus. Yet by celebrating this holiday we are given importunity to proclaim the Saviors Birth and how God has kept His promise to provide a Savior. When we share about the real meaning of Christmas it is often hard to not share about the cross and redemption for souls lot in sin. The ChristMas story does not stop in Egypt. It continues today.
I have put some links to get a general idea for all of them. There are some deeper studies on the internet, over the years I have read many of them. If you want a deep study on these topics I suggest you go seeking. I chose to try to keep it simple and let the Holy Spirit speak to you.
Whether you celebrate ChristMas or not is a personal decision. Be kind to those who do and to those who do not.
About having a tree.

Found this one, it gives all three ideas with good clarity.
Should Christians celebrate ChristMas
When was Jesus born
This is where Santa Claus originated and developed through out the years. (this does not change the speakers words on him, it is only to give a reference to where he came from)

This one shows in 3minutes how society has bought the idea of Santa Clause & presented it to our children
