I don't know if I put the prayer request for my friend, Joyce Hunter here or not, but had it on Facebook. She had been in a coma and they were preparing for her death. Just last week - this was posted on her page - it is with the greatest of heartbreak and sadness that I am sharing with you that our family has reached the devastating conclusion that our beloved mother and nana is truly no longer with us. A recent test of her brilliant brain showed slowing/delay and damage. The damage is being attributed to a lack of oxygen. After much discussion, questions, praying, bargaining attempts, an ocean of tears, and a whole lot more craziness we have realized what we knew all along. The beautiful woman that gave us life, raised us, encouraged and taught us, prayed for us, loved us unconditionally has excited stage left and is currently awaiting us to close the final curtain and allow her to celebrate no pain. She will soon be able sing with the angels and not have to fight for air.
A DNR is now in place. We will be removing all heroic supports soon and allow her to rest and peacefully drift off to her heavenly home.
This is the most recent update: As you all know, our family had decided to fully honor momma's wishes and let her go, should that be the result of removing the life support systems. I had received a phone call from the surgeon that performed her emergency procedure, and he was adamant that that not occur and wished to speak with me before we made our final decision. All day Tuesday we waited to speak with him. This did not happen. Something else did though. Mom started moving her toes. Only on her right foot. She reacted when tickled. Then her right leg started moving. She was moving!! She started wiggling her toes on command. 17x's in a row!! As a yes response when asked a question. Then she opened her eyes. Really opened her eyes. For the first time in 2 weeks, our mom opened her eyes and looked at us. She smiled with her mouth and eyes. She mouthed the words, "I love you", and "hey baby". She nodded her head yes and no. She woke up!!
Wednesday morning, I spoke with the surgeon on the phone. He gave an extremely optimistic outlook and prognosis. My brother and I spoke with the surgeon later that afternoon. Mom is here, awake quite often, responding more and more, has begun to move her left leg some now, and continues to amaze us.
God is good, all the time!! Please keep the prayers coming!!
Me: Whatever you are going through, give it to the Lord and let Him handle it. Look at what He has done for Joyce - what a miracle. Thank You, Lord!!!!
